Staying Connected
Three days had passed since Suzie went home with her new baby. It was time for Theresa, the charge nurse on maternity to call Suzie as part of EMMC’s Warm Line phone program. The call was brief but a great relief to Suzie.
“Hi, Suzie, this is Theresa from Grant 7, is this a good time to talk?” Suzie replied, “Oh, I’m so glad you called. I do have a few questions and didn’t want to bother my doctor.” Suzie’s questions were fairly typical for new moms and Theresa was able to give her reassurances she was doing a great job in her new role as mother.
When Suzie was asked how her stay in the hospital was she replied, “The nurses were very kind and professional. Wendy was a delight in the labor room; she really made me feel like I was important, not just part of her job.”
Staying connected to the professionals at EMMC can keep people reassured even after they stop being patients. Something as simple as a two minute phone call gave an overwhelmed new mother the support she needed and reflected well on her whole EMMC experience. The nursing staff was pleased to hear the positive feedback for a job they take pride in doing well, even when it means reaching beyond the walls of the hospital.
The Moral of the Story:
- Choose a job you love and you will never work a day in your life.
