The Mink Coat
With the renewed focus on PF and the Caring Behaviors, many employees who don’t often have a chance to interact directly with patients in their jobs are eagerly looking for opportunities to contribute.
One day Noelle Bourre, administrative assistant to the CEO, was having lunch at one of the round tables in the cafeteria with the three friends, when she became aware that her dining companions were looking past her. Before she could turn to see what they were looking at, she felt a tap on the shoulder.
She saw a petite and frail-looking elderly woman was standing there with a mink coat hanging behind her on her arms. She looked as if she was stuck in the coat. The woman looked at Noelle and said in a small voice, “Can you please help me with my coat? My arms are so stiff.”
Noelle immediately recognized an opportunity to deliver a Caring Behavior. She jumped up and said, “Of course, I can!” You never know when opportunity will tap you on the shoulder.
The Moral of the Story: Always be on the lookout for your chance to show someone you care!
